Joe and I went house hunting last night! We absolutely adore our realtor. Her name is Heidi and she's actually from Warsaw and knows our bud Jeff. She was recommended to us by our Morgage Agent Candi. We were VERY lucky to find her. The first realtor we worked with (recommended to us by our realtor in Warsaw) turned out to be sucky! She only listened to what Joe had to say, completely ignored me, and we felt like she seemed pretty lazy. SO, we called Heidi and tada here we are now!
Anyways, we walked through a total of 3.5 houses. We had scheduled 5 house walk throughs, one turned out to be in a bad part of the town, so we immediately said no once we pulled up to the house. The one that we only saw .5 of...we really only saw .01 of. We had to walk around to the back to find the lock box on the door, the back patio looked very hillbillyesk, the kitchen was very tiny with horrid wallpaper up and reeked of Smoke. Joe and I immediately said no because of the smoke smell (that surprisingly the probably thought they covered up with air freshner).
Here are my impressions of the 3 that we actually did walk through:
The first house, we walk into the first one, we love the first floor. Dark wooden beams throughout the living room and dinning room. Large open Kitchen concept. Bed rooms are decent size and it had a LARGE old tub. We look into the back yard, which is very large, with a large Maple tree and a picnic table. We head back in to go upstairs and there is our first problem. The stairs are fairly steep and only have a railing on the right hand side and NOTHING on the left hand side, no wall, no rail, nothing. The upstairs has very low ceilings, maybe 7 feet ceilings. The shower upstairs would be hard to shower in, it has a slanted ceiling as well as it being low. The upstairs definitely ruined the house. :( Anyways, we go to leave and the latch on the door won't catch and the door won't shut. I have a feeling they know about that since there is no sign in the yard for the house being for sale.
The second house we go to, Joe firsts notices the old coal shoots and is ecstatic. :) We get ready to head in and it starts hailing. Crazy Indiana Weather. We head inside and love the leaded windows around the fireplace and the built in cabinets in the dining room. The living room would be hard to work with, but I suppose it would be doable. We head outside which has a Large deck, good for entertaining, and a decent yard. Downstairs in the basement it was pretty dark and would need some work for it to be usable in my sense. The upstairs shower has a low shower head and would annoy me to use it. OH and the only bathrooms are a half bath in the basement and the full bath on the 2nd floor. Not a big fan of that one. It was a nice house, but wouldn't work well for what we have in mind.
The third house we walked through, we really liked. It had 3 bathrooms, all full, one on each floor and one in the basement. The basement was mostly finished with a little knook for an office. Each of the bed rooms were decent size, and the yard was gorgeous. They had really taken care of it. The kitchen was a little small, BUT they used the space there VERY wisely. We found out this morning that it had went down 5000 from what they wanted from it. If we do decide to offer on it, we would have to offer even less. It's just a little out of our budget for a house.
As of right now, we are planning on looking at 2 more tomorrow night. These two will be down near DownTown Indy. I'll give another update when I can about those.
I think that is all I have for right now!
